I won't go so far as to call it hatred, but they annoy the mess out of me with their marketing campaigns and just flat-out weird ideas that are *this* close to being cool, but always miss the mark.

The latest WTH-are-they-thinking idea is to hold "House Parties" to pimp the launch of Windows 7.  They have a website to give you tips, another site from which to download party favors, and a video overview:

Seriously?  Ugh.  First of all, they are totally TRYING TOO HARD.  I'm not sure if they're producing these videos in-house or are actually paying a firm to come up with this crap, but in its attempt to look under-produced it's only coming off as totally hokey and over-produced. 

I mean, would YOU honestly throw a party to show off a new operating system, print out signs, and "Download and print this fun activity" (true/false quizzes that promise to) "keep the party going!"

I'm pretty hardcore geeky and even this is out of my realm of cool.  Or fun.  Or even socially acceptable.

Microsoft, you have the lion's share of the market.  Stop embarrassing yourself.

The hubby decided to get all philosophical up in the Twitter and posted this gem:

But then, The Moron struck.

I was following the president's speech via Twitter (shut up.  I was going to watch it online later-- our family calendar was booked months ago) when the masses went full-out batshit insane with furious Tweets about some Joe Wilson guy.  We actually PAUSED THE GAME to get online to see what the heck happened.

Sigh...

Cover your ears, I'm getting ready to yell.

HOW DARE YOU!  HOW DARE YOU DISRESPECT THE PRESIDENT IN THAT MORONIC, NO-HOME-TRAINING, FLAT-OUT-RUDE WAY!

I'm angry.  Not just at The Moron, but the fact that during the previous presidency and especially since 9/11, the message has been "You don't have to respect the President, but you MUST respect the office"  and even "If you don't respect the President, you're a traitor and/or un-American"  And I played by those rules.  I DID show respect for our President, even though I disagreed with him and worried about his mental capacity on an occasion or three.  Others were not so subservient and suffered greatly.

But now, it appears that the rules have changed.  This Joe Wilson guy felt comfortable enough to not only disrupt the President's speech, but to call him a liar?  And don't even get me started about the whole President addressing the schoolkids "controversy"... can you IMAGINE the fallout if anyone had refused to air a G.W. Bush address in our schools?

As it happens, when we resumed our game after the Moron Break, the next song up was "Revolution."  And you know, the kid and I belted it out.  Loudly.

Before acting the fool, take a moment to READ THE SPEECH.

I vowed to spend the rest of my life with someone.  A really cool dude, as it turns out. 

It's been an interesting year for us all, filled with adjustments, teenage angst, drama, and intrigue.  All of which was foreshadowed by the looks on our faces in this post-ceremony shot:

And one year later, I'm happy to report that we're still madly in love.  This man has brought love and laughter to my daily life and is my best friend.  He lets me be me, and because of him I'm a better me.

And did I mention that he's a really cool dude?

To make matters worse--and more.....uncomfortable, she's standing next to her boyfriend, Andrew Cuomo, the Attorney General of the State of New York.

Now, for the uninitiated, let me explain:  Sandra Lee is quite possibly the most hated of all Food Network hosts.  She has a show called Semi-Homemade (and is referred to online as the Semi-Ho) and tends to make crazy concoctions that are overly sweet and/or just scary.  The common belief is that she has no remaining taste buds due to being a raging alcoholic-- each show she gleefully announces that it's "Cocktail Time" and goes on to prepare a drink that would make the Rat Pack's collective livers shrivel in their graves.  The most infamous of her "recipes" is for a Kwanzaa Cake made with... oh god, you just have to see it for yourself

Scary, huh?  So anyway, Tony has ranted about her before:

She makes her audience feel good about themselves. You watch her on that show and you think, "I can do that. That's not intimidating." All you have to do is waddle into the kitchen, open a can of crap and spread it on some other crap that you bought at the supermarket. And then you've done something really special. The most terrifying thing I've seen is her making a Kwanzaa cake. Watch that clip and tell me your eyeballs don't burst into flames. It's a war crime on television. You'll scream.

In my excitement I've totally lost the point of this post.  Sorry.  Not about the post, but subjecting you to the Kwanzaa Cake clip.  Mea culpa.

And if you've never seen the trainwreck that is Sandra Lee?  Consider yourself fortunate.  There's not enough therapy in the world to undo that vision...
